Scribbler - Product 19

Lets get one thing straight, Product 19 looks just like Total. That being said this track is classically chaotic scribbler recording, Al Currie's lead guitar screeches along to Craig Currie's beautifully abrasive high pitched belt. It's got your "Daily Minimum Requirements" and not to mention a real 90's sound to it, like a bit of Neutral Milk a bit Brian Jonestown, A little Nirvana Bleach, maybe a touch of Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. Pavement(please stop me), not that the song sounds anything like those bands but the song feels very influenced by the more lo-fi leaning basement sound of the 90's. The Ding Ding Ding of the Xylophone and the Gonzo Drums played by Matt Samways and Tyler Fleck are a great addition and feel really right for the song. Add to that the broomstick brush drums of original drummer Franc Lopes and Thom Lopes behind the mixing board this session has a whole lot going for it. Scribbler always been a pretty inclusive band, the members of the band are pretty much everyone who can fit, and that dynamic has led to many spontaneous eclectic recordings like this one. As always though Craig's incredibly unique vocals are the main focus, the style and delivery is just so unlike any other vocalist i've heard. I guess i could compare them to Jeff Mangum, not necessarily in sound again but in the way it can be overwhelming and abrasive at times and a little pitchy, but they are always on point and you can tell that Craig isn't holding anything back, he's really bringing it. The Earnest and raw vocals alone makes scribbler a unique listen, the core songs and personality and artistry are all there. What Product 19 is a perfect example of is all these other facets of scribbler the drums and percussion and lead guitar and bass really bring the personality and vitality to an all time high. There is so much going on in this recording and its really amazing to think that I was actually a part of it, especially considering the morning of the day it was recorded Al Currie Thom Lopes and I had just got the idea from an old issue of national geographic, then a few hours later it was recorded. 2 years past before i got my hands on the final product (ha get it). Totally worth it, this song is serious contender for my top #1 favorite scribbler song._Mohamed El-Darwish
